« Amy’s minute » – workshop with ‘Mimi’, professional make-up artist – Friday the 29th of May 2015

At 10 a.m on Friday the 29th of May we had a much anticipated visit from ‘Mimi’, Gaston’s grandmother.

Very soon the children will be performing their show of some of Michael Jackson’s greatest hits. Rehearals are of course well under way and we are working on our steps for Thriller. Seeing Michael and his dancers behind the scenes having their make-up done fascinated the children, so when Gaston told us his grandmother is a professional make-up artist, we jumped at the chance to invite her to La Maison de l’Enfant for a demonstration!

‘Mimi’ set out her kit: brushes, various pots in different sizes containing different colours, make-up remover, tissues, fake blood, water, toilet paper…we were intrigued as to what she would show us!

‘Mimi’ gave Marguerite a bit of a black eye and a split lip, Hadrien a broken nose and Joseph a nasty lookig gash on his face…but not literally, don’t worry! She used her artists’ tools to transform the children’s skin, giving the illusion of scars, broken noses, deep cuts…she even turned Lilou into a very convincing Zombie! We all watched each step as it happened, fascinated.

After the transformations, the children said they weren’t scared and understood that when we see what we think is a real monster on TV, it’s really just a person very well made-up!
